Richard Murray

Managing Associate

Richard is a managing associate in our London office.

Richard specialises in shipbuilding, marine insurance, and admiralty (casualty) disputes.  He predominantly acts for (re)insurers of hull and machinery, liability, cargo, and war risks – as well as marine engineers, shipyards, banks, and commodities houses. He has previously been seconded to a Lloyds syndicate.

Richard’s experience extends to all aspects of major casualty handing (including limitation of liability, salvage, towage, general average, piracy, collisions and wrecks). He has also advised clients on the drafting of policy wordings, and numerous other disputes arising under contracts for the construction, sale and financing of vessels.

Prior to entering private practice, Richard held several commercial roles on high-risk offshore reconstruction projects in the Persian Gulf. He was called to the Bar in 2016, and is a Supporting Member of the London Maritime Arbitrators Association.
