Alexandra Bailey

Associate

Alexandra is an associate solicitor working in our London and Newcastle offices, with both a legal (Solicitor/LLM) and a commercial background.

Alexandra spent 11 years working in industry for ship owners and one national oil company, predominantly in tanker chartering (Crude/LPG/LNG) and tanker operations (Crude/Chemical/Commodity Chemicals/Edible Oils), as well as in dry bulk/RoRo/heavy lift. She also dealt with all post-fixture matters at that time, such as laytime and demurrage calculations, analysis of voyage profitability/TCE daily returns and performance claims.

She has also worked for a large international claims handling firm in their General Average and Casualty Management Department, where she handled complex claims daily, for cargo or hull underwriters.

Having obtained significant commercial experience, Alexandra then entered private practice with a leading maritime law firm in 2008 in their Dubai office, focussing during her 10 years there on dry shipping (i.e. charterparty/sale disputes), admiralty cases, ship arrest cases and international trade. During this time, Alexandra’s caseload was a mixture of English law and UAE law work. While in private practice in Dubai, Alexandra was licenced to practice UAE law by the Dubai Legal Affairs Dept.

Alexandra continues to build on these practice areas since her return to the UK in 2018, with the majority of her clients being International Group P&I Clubs, and international ship owners or charterers. The types of cases that she is currently working on include demurrage disputes, off-spec bunker disputes, a grounding, cargo contamination claims and collisions.
