Captain Amarinder Singh Brar is a Master Mariner and maritime law specialist in our London office.
Captain Brar is highly experienced, contributing three decades of operational, regulatory, and technical expertise to our firm's casualty and dispute resolution team.
He spent seventeen years at sea including six years in command. He has practical seagoing experience on various vessel types such as large container ships, geared feeder container ships, crude and product oil tankers, and general cargo vessels. His command experience provides an invaluable, first-hand understanding of shipboard operations and incident management.
Ashore, Captain Brar brings a decade of specialist technical knowledge to the legal sector:
- Four years as a Mariner Manager at a leading Tier II London specialist law firm, working in both dry and wet shipping disputes.
- Three years serving the maritime insurance and legal industries as a consultant, focused on Hull & Machinery (H&M) and Protection & Indemnity (P&I) matters.
- Nearly three further years as a Nautical Surveyor for the UK’s maritime administration where he performed rigorous duties including Port State Control inspections, auditing training standards, and examining nautical officers.
Captain Brar works on a high volume of contentious matters, including collisions, groundings, salvage matters, and complex charterparty disputes. He assists with immediate casualty response, evidence collection, liability assessment; and holds a specialism in incidents involving container loss.
